"When we fail to acknowledge as part of reality the worth of a poor person, a human embryo, a person with disabilities – to offer just a few examples – it becomes difficult to hear the cry of nature itself; everything is connected. Once the human being declares independence from reality and behaves with absolute dominion, the very foundations of our life begin to crumble....”
Pope Francis
Laudato Si', #117
SERVICE: Taking Care of His Suffering Body

Cherishing the gift of the human person

The dignity and beauty of the human person comes from the fact of the incarnation of God in the person of Christ. With the whole Church, St. Ambrose parishioners have the privilege to recognize his image and likeness within the face of every person—from the moment of his or her conception until natural death.

St. Ambrose has a variety of ministries to support the weak and vulnerable persons in our midst:

Pro-Life Committee

Proclaim and live the Gospel of Life through a program of prayer, education, and action and to encourage all parishioners to manifest a belief in the sacredness of human life from conception to natural death. Assist in various activities that will take place throughout the year. Gabriel Project...Helping pregnant women in need

Pregnant? Need help? Gabriel Project:

  • Central toll-free helpline: 1-866-444-3553
  • Confidential needs assessment
  • Parish "Angel" friend for support (see below)
  • Pre-natal care assistance
  • Additional help from parish ministries, Catholic Charities, crisis pregnancy centers and other community resources

St. Ambrose participates in this diocesan program of the Office of Family Life. The Gabriel Project is a parish-based pregnancy assistance outreach that offers practical, emotional, and spiritual support to expectant mothers. St. Ambrose is looking for women of faith to walk alongside pregnant women offering friendship, encouragement, and prayer. Trained Gabriel "Angel" volunteers connect moms to free or low-cost resources such as material items, childbirth classes and moms groups to help them as they prepare for motherhood. To get involved and help implement this program, please contact Joan Baxter at 703-426-0505 or email Baxter522@hotmail.com   Click here to learn more.

Project Rachel...Hope & Healing

Are you suffering from panic attacks, anger, isolation, nightmares, anxiety, numbing, depression, guilt, re-experincing the abortion, intimacy problems, eating disorders, frustration and bitterness? You are not alone.

At Project Rachel we understand that the pain caused by abortion is often not recognized by our society. This pain comes in part from a denial that there was a child who is no more. We want to reach out to you with the mercy and love of Christ and help you be at peace with yourself and with God. We offer a confidential phone line, referrals for professional counseling to help you sort through unresolved feelings and conflicts, preparation to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and/or spiritual counseling, and Rachel's Vineyard weekend retreats. If you or a friend are hurting from abortion, please call...1-888-456-HOPE or 703-841-2504.

Small gestures of love, of tenderness, of care, make people feel that the Lord is with us. This is how the door of mercy opens.

Prayer of wonder

My sweet Lord...your Son went down from the heights of his divinity to the depths of our humanity. Can anyone's heart remain closed and hardened after this? We image your divinity, but you image our humanity in that union of the two which you have worked in a man. You have veiled the Godhead in a cloud, in the clay of our humanity. Only your love could so dignify the flesh of Adam. And so by reason of this immeasurable Love I beg, with all my strength, that you freely extend your mercy to all your lowly creatures. Amen.

-St. Catherine of Siena (1347-1380)
